Welcome to BOOK WEEK. This week in ICT the Year 1 children have been using Photobooth to talk about books. We are talking about our favourite books and the type of books we like to read and why.

Well it was a welcomed short week this week. So the Year 0/1/2 missed out on their ICT time this week.

The Year 3 children continued to work on their Kidspiration Penguin work. They have learnt alot of new skills. Check out how they have blinged up their presentations.

Today the year 3 classes worked on their Kidspiration Penguin information. We have learnt to add lots of pictures that we drew ourselves and how to change the fonts, add text, move items around and lots more.

Year 4 Animations

The Year 4 children have been working with I Can Animate. Over the last few weeks they have been learning the skills to be able to create their own animations. The children began using shapes and moved them around to create an animated look. They then began to use play dough and items to create animations.

We talked about the importance of small movements and clearing the shot before shooting. The children worked in small groups of about 4 with 1 person being the camera person and in charge. The children all worked so well together. Here are some pictures of them working on the skills of animating...

The Year 2 children have been working hard using Kidspiration to share their knowledge about sea animals. This week we looked at the shark and the children began to put their ideas onto their kidspiration.

Welcome to Week 7 and the new month of June. It has come around very fast and the Year 0/1 children are developing their drawing skills in Kid Pix. It is great to see the changes in not only their drawings but attitudes also. They are confident now when asked to draw their own pictures rather than responding with "I can't..."

This week we looked at a Tiger and the children then labelled parts of it and connected them in the correct areas. Have a look at their fantastic work...

Week 6 - Samoan Language Week

Welcome to Week 6

Its a special week this week as Randwick Park School is celebrating

Samoan Language Week.

Today the Year 1 and 2 children learnt some Samoan language greetings. They practiced saying them with a friend and then we recorded ourselves using the Samoan language on Photobooth.

We had a lot of fun learning some of the Samoan language in ICT.

We focused on the greeting of Talofa lava meaning Hello and Fa'afetai meaning Thank you.

Today in ICT the Year 2 kids used Kidspiration to draw a fish. They then used the tools to add as many labels as they could. Have a look at what they achieved today.

This week was the Year 3 camp. On Friday the children chose activities they wanted to do. The children working with me were doing photos of the other children working on their chosen activity.

The Year 4 children that worked with me today were looking at photos. We took the focus of Randwick Park School and walked around the school with the children choosing items to photograph that they felt represented our school. They chose an item took a whole shot and then a close up and then extreme close up of the same item. Here is a look at what they achieved today.

Week 2 - Year 0/1 Kid Pix Drawing

This week our focus was to draw a Giraffe using proper colours and to label with at least two labels using text box.

We looked at a picture of a Giraffe and discussed what made it a Giraffe eg: long neck, spots, horns, long legs etc. We then drew it using Kid Pix some of us thought we could not draw a Giraffe but they all look fantastic. We then used the text box to write our names and add labels.

Some of us told the teacher and she wrote the labels for us and some of us managed to type them in all by ourselves.

Welcome to Week 4!

This week Room 1 Year 0 put their drawing skills to use. They used Kid Pix to draw a sun. They then filled it using the paint tin. We talked about how we need the circle shape of the sun to be closed before filling it or else it won't work. We talked about the colour of the sun being yellow and not blue or green or black. Here are some examples of what the achieved.

Week 3 - Year 0/1 Kid Pix Drawing Recording

Today we looked at a variety of animals and we chose one to draw onto Kid Pix. We had to look carefully at our animal to see all the special things about it. We drew it and then we recorded our voice talking about what our animal had that made it special.

Most of the children are brand new so today we looked at moving and controlling the mouse. The children had to fill the page using the pencil tool. Here is an example of some fine work.

Week 2 - Extention Year 3/4

Today we talked about what we would be doing in ICT this term for the extention group.

Year 3 will be exploring the use of I Can Animate to make animations about a particular animal that they choose. Today they explored the animation software and how to get things moving. They learn't the importance of the duplicating key. If they don't duplicate there animation won't work.

Here is an example of a child exploring on I Can Animate.

Year 4 will be exploring photography. They will learn to take a variety of shots and upload them to I Photo. Later on in the term they will explore uploading them to Animoto and then onto their class blogs.

Today we explored the camera and looked at the zoom button and focus button. We looked at a variety of close up and extreme close up shots on the internet and then took a few of our own. We discovered that we need to be creative when taking the pictures.

Week 2 - Year 0/1 Kid Pix Drawing Details

Today in ICT we drew our own animals. We looked at a picture of a Kiwi and found all the special parts like the long sharp beak, beady eyes, feathers, two feet, brown colour. Our teacher then showed us how to draw it using Kid Pix we had to look at all the details and the colours. We were then given our own picture of an animal and we looked at it carefully and then drew it using the tools in Kid Pix.

We explored the software today. Children used the pencil and pointers to draw and colour a ball. Children then clicked and moved the ball and duplicating often.

We talked about how important it is to duplicate as this gets the picture moving.

Welcome back.

Seen as this week the school will be doing a focus on ANZAC day I decided to stick with this theme for the first week also.

The Year 2 children drew a picture of a poppy and wrote a short sentence about what it was. We discussed what ANZAC day was about and what a poppy was and looked at some images of them. We had to use the pencil in Kid Pix to draw the picture then fill it using the tin. We remembered that the pictures needed to be joint if we were using paint tin. Here is some of our drawings:

Term 2 - ICT Focus

Well the two weeks holidays flew by. It's now time to get back into things and continue our learning.

This term most areas have a focus on learning about animals. So in ICT we will be learning lots of interesting new ways to work with the theme being animals. The Year 0/1 s will look at drawing their own pictures using Kid Pix and adding some text that explain their animal. Year 2 have a focus of information reports so will use Kidspiration to gather and then present their information and drawing all our own pictures. The Year 3s are also looking at animals and will be using Kidspiration also to draw, label and describe their animal. The Year 4s are looking at advertising so will be using I Can Animate to make a short advert that will sell their castles that they will be making.

Looking forward to an exciting term.

Week 9 - Final Week of Term 1

Well its here the last week of Term 1, wow!

The children are finishing off all unfinished work this week. The Year 0/1 explored Photo Booth today. They had a lot of fun there was plenty of laughter and questions during their time exploring a range of photos.

The Year 3/4 have been completing their Comic Life posters. They look fantastic and the ones completed have been printed off and displayed in the ICT lab. Here are a few examples from each class:

Here are some pictures of the children creating their brochure. They are drawing their own pictures on Kid Pix. They were not allowed to copy and paste pictures from the internet. They have had a lot of fun creating their own pictures.

Welcome to Week 8

We are all becoming very good at using Kid Pix to create a piece of amazing work. We have learnt a lot since the beginning of the term.

Year 0

We had to use the pencil to draw closed shapes. We then used the paint tin to fill in the shapes. The teachers helped us to write our names using the text box.

Year 1

Today we are putting all of the skills we have learnt together to create a fantastic picture and we are going to try to add a sentence about our picture. Our teacher will type the words for us as we tell her orally what we would like to say. We had to try to draw a picture rather than just shapes. See what we did...

Week 7 - Year 0/1 Kid Pix

Welcome to Week 7

The term is disappearing fast. Its hard to believe we are into Week 7 only 3 weeks to go until the holidays.

This week we will be using Kid Pix to create our own pictures. We will recap our new skills so far such as using the pencil to create a picture, changing the colours, filling shapes using the paint tin, inserting text using the text box.

Week 6 - Year 3/4 Google Earth

The plan for today was to complete our Comic Life posters. However due to technical difficulties and our technician being absent we had to think fast and come up with a new plan.

So we explored Google Earth. The children loved doing this they had a lot of fun finding their own homes and then traveling to some very exotic places. They were very keen to explore landmarks from all over the world.

To install Google Earth is easy:

Wait for it to download and then just drag it to your desktop and your away.

It was fantastic to see the children so enthusiastic and excited about exploring our world.

Week 6 - Year 0/1 Kid Pix

Welcome to Week 6.

This week the Year 0 and 1 used Kid Pix to further our skills. We recapped on using the text box to write our names. We used the pencil again to draw a picture. We also had a play with changing the colours.

We learnt something new today that was to fill in a shape with colour. To do this we used the pencil to create a shape that was closed such as a circle. We then used the paint tin to then fill our shapes with a variety of shapes and colours. We had fun doing this.

We need to remember that our shapes need to be closed they cannot have any gaps or the paint tin wont fill it.

Have a look at the Year Ones awesome Kid Pix drawings. They had to draw a closed shape and then fill it using the paint tin. They then typed their names.

Week 5 - Year 3/4 Comic Life Net Safety

This week the year 3/4s have been working hard on finishing their Comic Life posters. They have done a fantastic job and lots of children are finished or very close and are just putting on the final touches.

This week we recapped how to log on and save to the server. We also looked at opening documents that we have saved to the server.

One group learnt how to export a file and save to server. This is to be done so the file can be uploaded to the Blog.

Wow its March already! This week the Year 0/1 children are using Kid Pix. They will build on their skills of using the pencil to create a picture. Today they have learnt to insert text using the text box.

To do this we:

Click on the T (text box)

Then click on the screen

We can then use the keyboard to type in what we would like

We drew a picture of ourselves using the pencil and we also used a variety of colours. We then inserted a text box and wrote our names.

Remember: If your mouse runs out of tail - PICK IT UP AND PUT IT BACK IN FRONT OF YOU!

Today all the Year 3 and 4 classes continued to work on their Comic Life - Safety on the Net posters.

Today we learnt how to change the colours, background and lines within our Comic Life creations.

We can do this by clicking on the details tab.

Once we are in details we just need to click on a part of our comic life then we can fill it or change the colour.

Our focus is to have the content complete today so that our next session we can spend time on blinging out our posters.

Maintenance

Today we re capped connecting and saving to the server. Some of the children were new to this so the others in the group used their skills to teach them how to do this. It was great to see them interacting and sharing their knowledge with each other. The children felt success as they taught others to connect and save using the server.

Extention:

Today the Year 3 and 4s began their extention groups.

Year 3: We discussed landmarks in Auckland and NZ. I explained to the children what our outcome will be. We are going to produce a brochure about Auckland landmarks. We looked at a variety of brochures to see what we would require in ours. We decided that ours would need:

-titles

-colour

-words

-information

-pictures

-maps

-diagrams

for it to be successful.

Then with our partner and using the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHY, HOW questions we decided on a landmark and prepared questions to investigate. We used Kid Pix to do our brainstorm of questions.

Welcome to Week 4

This week the Year 2 classes re capped our last lessons about staying safe online. These are some of the things we remembered:

- dont give out your name

- exit

- ignore and delete

- tell a teacher

- ask an adult for help

We then worked with a partner to talk about 'How to stay safe online'! We did a small interview we came up with questions like:

1. What can you do to stay safe online?

2. Why do you need to stay safe online?

3. What can you do if you need help?

Children practised their questions and responses and then recorded them using KidPix.

In Kid Pix children clicked onto the Sounds button. They then clicked the microphone at the bottom of the page. From here they use the buttons to guide them:

Red Circle for record

Blue Square for stop

Green triangle for play

We talked about speaking clearly and loudly. Children listened to their recordings and then saved them to be able to share with others.

Week 4 - Year 1 Mouse Skills

Welcome to Week 4.

Today the Year 1 children learnt about using their mouse. We learnt that if we run out of tail we can pick up the mouse and move it back in front of us so we can continue on with our work.

We used KidPix to draw a picture using the pencil and if we were successful with that we also wrote our names using the mouse.

We learnt where the icon for Kid Pix is. Remember to look for the colour green and the letter K.

We learnt to click on the mouse to tell the computer to do something. We also learnt to click, hold and drag the mouse so we were able to draw.

Some very clever Year 1 children were able to change colours and some could create their name using animated letters.

Week 3 - Movie of Year 3/4 Server Experts

Today some classes nominated two 'EXPERTS' from their classes. These children worked with Mrs Davis on learning about the server. They learnt to connect to the server, save to the server and to add new folders. These children will now take on the role of teacher and will share their skills with their classmates.

To save to the server you can follow the instructions:
1. command then K
2. click on connect
3. user name and password these will be your class number eg:
Username room20
password room20 (no spaces)
4. click on students
5.click on your class number

To save to the server make sure you are firstly connected to the server.
then:
1. save as
2. find the server file and click
3. students
4. room number
5. your file with your name on it
6. give the file a name and save

TIP: YOU NEED TO BE ONLINE TO ACCESS THE SERVER!!

Week 3 - Year 1/2 Net Safety

Following is some of the work completed today using Kid Pix to show their message about staying safe when using the computer.

Today we worked again on Net Safety as we did last week. It was the turn of the classes who missed out on this lesson last week. Some great ideas were again brainstormed together on ways to stay safe online. Some of their ideas included:
-exit
-ask a teacher to help you
- wash your screen
- press the x button

The children in Year 1 & 2 worked on Kid Pix with a friend to design a piece of work that included the following.
The children developed the success criteria for their work:

Week 2 - Year 3/4 Net Safety

Today was the Year 3/4s turn to learn about staying safe online. We had fun discussing ways to stay safe online. We watched Hector and he told us about not giving out our personal information online. He told us that we could use a nick name rather than our real name as this would keep our identity safe. Our next step was to work with a partner to plan out our ideas for a poster with a message about staying safe online. We are using Comic Life to publish so spent the lesson penciling our ideas down. We had fun doing this and are looking forward to next lesson where we will begin to publish our work.

The Year 3/4s came up with these ideas to stay safe online:
-not give out your personal details
-exit a site if you see something you don't like
-tell a teacher or adult if you see something you don't like
-don't go onto sites that you don't know
-don't send mean things to people

Worked with the Year 5/6 children today looking at staying safe online. The children have spent today drafting and designing a Cyber safety poster. Keeping safe in ICT not only in the room but while using the equipment. We learnt today that it is important not to give out your personal details while online. Hector told us that instead of using our own name we could use a nic name or maybe only our first name.
